About the Episode

In the second completed episode of the 2004 Bear Town web series Hank is rudely awoken by the cockroaches who share Omle, Hank and Tumbles apartment and have an axe to grind with him.

The cockroach puppets weren't finished in time for this episode's shoot so they were only filmed from behind in shots facing Hank. Reverse angles of the cockroaches were picked up later on after most of the cockroaches were finished (a cockroach is actually missing arms in one shot, but it's barely noticable). The cockroach puppets were built roughly to scale with 12" action figures and dolls so that toy clothing and accessories can be used for their costuming and props.

The gag the script is supposed to set-up doesn't really work because the final "reveal" shot should have included a larger cockroach army and an incredibly detailed 1/6 scale replica of an M5 Stuart Tank. The tank had to cut at the last minute because it weighed 15lbs and there was no way to safely secure it over the heads of the puppeteers on the small set. It's a shame because the tank was so incredibly detailed it even had a radio controlled motorized turret that recoiled when it was fired. A special cockroach puppet was even built to "drive" it.
